Crystal Palace still have Ryan Sessegnon in training at Copers Cope as pre-season heats up, but how does the club feel about signing him?
With two transfers confirmed already this summer, a third seems close with Ryan Sessegnon on trial for the Eagles. This was first reported last week as the Englishman is training at Copers Cope.
Crystal Palace need a player in the position Sessegnon offers and it seems increasingly likely that he’ll end up at Selhurst Park.
However, since he began training under Oliver Glasner, there hasn’t been any update.
With the situation unclear, we have spoken to HITC’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey to see what is going on between Sessegnon and Palace right now.

What Crystal Palace are thinking about Ryan Sessegnon
Since his contract expired at Spurs, Sessegnon has been at Copers Cope training in an attempt to earn himself a contract.
But it’s been over a week now, and yet we haven’t heard anything on the status of this deal to bring him in at Palace. So in order to find out what’s going on we talked with Graeme Bailey.
“The only thing I have been hearing is that he is still with Crystal Palace”, Graeme explained. Before adding, “Think they quite like him to provide competition for Tyrick Mitchell.”
With the former Tottenham winger still at Palace, it’s safe to assume he is impressing. So if the club likes him then it seems fairly likely that he does end up signing for the club prior to the US Tour later this month.
Sessegnon would be a top-class pickup for Palace considering he’s free and it’d hand Glasner two contrasting options at left wing-back.

Sessegnon and Tyrick Mitchell offer Palace very different things
With only Mitchell really capable of playing at left wing-back in Glasner’s system, reinforcements in this position were always desired.
With Mitchell being arguably more suited to the defensive side of the game, the competition would ideally be a different profile and in Sessegnon, Palace have got that.
| Stat per 90 | Mitchell |
| Shot creating actions | 1.32 |
| Passes completed % | 72.3% |
| Progressive passes | 2.64 |
| Progressive carries | 0.90 |
| Successful take-ons | 0.51 |
| Tackles | 2.95 |
| Interceptions | 0.73 |
| Blocks | 1.77 |
| Clearances | 2.92 |
In comparison to Mitchell, we have to go back to 2022/23 for Sessegnon after he played just seven minutes last campaign for the senior side.
In the 22/23 season, he managed 2.55 shot-creating actions per 90 which is a fairly exciting amount to have at wing-back, according to FBREF.
He did average less tackles and defensive play in general, but playing at Spurs compared with a Palace which includes under Roy Hodgson is vastly different and he’d have always had less defensive work to do.
It’d be an excellent pair of options for Glasner and something he may look to replicate on the right.
