Liverpool rejected Matt Turner before Crystal Palace move
Crystal Palace opted to sign Matt Turner on loan from Nottingham Forest on transfer deadline day – as a replacement for Sam Johnstone following his £10m move to Wolves.
However – according to James Pearce of The Athletic – Liverpool were offered the chance to sign the United States international beforehand.
It is said that Nottingham Forest – who signed Turner in a £10m deal from Arsenal in August 2023 – offered the American to Liverpool as part of a bid to sign Caoimhin Kelleher, along with £7m.
Pearce claims that Liverpool had “zero interest” in the 30-year-old, who was then signed on loan by Crystal Palace as an emergency goalkeeping option behind Dean Henderson.

In the nicest way possible, Crystal Palace fans should be concerned if Turner finds himself in between the sticks this season.
The man from New Jersey only lasted one season at Arsenal before the Gunners decided to get rid, before lasting less than half of the 2023/24 campaign at Nottingham Forest before those at the City Ground quickly opted to sign Matz Sels and then Carlos Miguel as replacements.
Turner conceded 31 goals in 21 appearances for Nottingham Forest – keeping only three clean sheets – while there were some dismal errors caused by his struggles when playing out from the back, and with decision making in general, as seen below.
Hopefully, Henderson does not suffer any repeats of the thigh injury which sidelined him for ten Premier League games last season, as Turner could be a real liability in between the sticks.
