SAKA, ANTONY AND 10 PREMIER LEAGUE STARS HEADING TO THEIR FIRST WORLD CUP
According to Patrick Vieira, a deal to sign Eddie Nketiah has not been agreed with Arsenal – yet.
However, things are looking very promising in regards to the 22-year-old joining us before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Interestingly, Spanish outlet AS revealed shortly after Vieira’s press conference earlier that Real Madrid forward Borja Mayoral is likely to become a Crystal Palace player too.
Who is Borja Mayoral?
The 24-year-old was the most highly-rated prospect in Spain at one point.
As Roma’s official website claims, Mayoral scored 102 goals in 77 games for Real Madrid’s Under-16 and Under-18 sides.
Zinedine Zidane has also likened the striker to Real Madrid icon Raul, which is a pretty bold comparison.
The Frenchman said that Mayoral is a player who “scores every time he has a shot” – exactly what Vieira needs.
In 47 appearances for Roma last season, he impressively netted 17 goals.
Borja Mayoral will be great for Eddie Nketiah
You might worry about how valued Nketiah will feel if Dougie Freedman immediately brings in another striker to compete with him.
However, Mayoral will only help the England Under-21 forward.
It’s a big ask for a 22-year-old to arrive at a goal-shy Selhurst Park and hit the ground running straight away, which is sadly what Nketiah needs to do.
The pressure could very easily break the London-born striker.
Having said that, Mayoral’s presence means the goalscoring burden is shared, and the weight is eased slightly from Nketiah’s shoulders.
Don’t get us wrong, we don’t expect him to shut off completely.
Simply put, it should help ease him into life in SE25, with a partner in crime assisting him in our desperate search for goals.
