Simon Jordan has now revealed that he tried to sign Michael Carrick for Crystal Palace while Iain Dowie was in charge.
The 56-year-old made the comment when speaking on Virgin Radio.

Well, the talkSPORT pundit revealed that he attempted to sign the man from Wallsend while working as Chairman at Crystal Palace, but the player himself refused to speak to Dowie about a move to Selhurst Park.
Jordan said: “Michael Carrick. We tried to sign him from West Ham, but he refused to speak to my manager. That amused me greatly because I didn’t much like the manager.”
It was talkSPORT who confirmed that Dowie is the mystery manager from these comments.
What a signing that would have been for Crystal Palace.
Carrick eventually left West Ham for Tottenham after the Hammers lost out to Crystal Palace in the 2004 Championship Play-Off Final, before eventually winning five Premier League titles at Manchester United.
Crystal Palace could hire Michael Carrick
Interestingly, Carrick is still on Crystal Palace’s radar – long after Jordan’s departure.
However – on this occasion – he is being looked at as a manager.
The Guardian claimed that Carrick became an option for Steve Parish after Patrick Vieira was sacked, before the 58-year-old opted to bring Roy Hodgson back.
There has since been no fresh link to the 42-year-old Middlesbrough boss, although given the fact Hodgson is expected to depart at the end of the season, our interest could be reignited.
Paulo Fonseca and Kieran McKenna are two other names on the shortlist – according to The Sun.
Be sure to keep an eye out for Carrick’s name, as his work at the Riverside Stadium has been very impressive so far – despite a small wobble at the start of this season.
