Nobody thought Crystal Palace would be in a relegation battle this season.
After six wins and a draw in the final seven games of last term, many inside and outside of Crystal Palace believed a push for European football could be on this season.
However, a strange summer of recruitment, and a number of late returnees due to international tournaments, has resulted in a terrible start which leaves us 18th in the Premier League.

Therefore, the January transfer window looks like one Dougie Freedman will have to work his magic in to hand Oliver Glasner added firepower – with the reliable David Ornstein now sharing some exciting news.

Speaking to NBC Sport on Threads about the clubs at risk of relegation this season, Ornstein said: “They’re going to look to go forward with Glasner as far as I’m aware, and I do think they’ll recruit a couple of players in January – definitely in the attacking positions.”
It would be a surprise if we decided against bolstering the attack – only Southampton, who sit bottom of the Premier League, have scored fewer than our tally of eight goals.
Dougie Freedman seems most likely to sign Romain Esse
If we were to make a prediction as to who arrives at Selhurst Park in January to improve the frontline, our money is on Millwall No.25 Romain Esse.
Another very reliable journalist in Alan Nixon recently claimed that Freedman will push to sign Esse in January after being impressed by the 19-year-old across several scouting trips to The Den.
The England U20 international would appear to be a wise replacement for Michael Olise – in terms of profile at least – given his tendency to cut inside from the right onto his stronger left foot, which became the France international’s trademark skill at Crystal Palace.
Hopefully, a deal for the immensely talented Esse can be struck this January.
