As Crystal Palace bring Ismaila Sarr to the club, now rumours have resurfaced that Marc Guhei could yet be sold this summer.
The 2024 summer transfer window slams shut four weeks today and only one of Crystal Palace’s big three have been sold so far.
This may be about to change though, with reports now suggesting that Marc Guehi has been the subject of an approach by Newcastle United.
Negotiations are reported to have been opened between the Eagles and the Magpies with Guhei high on their list.
But while it is not imminent, there is reason to believe Palace would be open to the idea of selling.
Crystal Palace could welcome Newcastle’s interest
Newcastle’s interest in Guehi won’t have caught Palace off guard, as they have been one of the clubs interested all summer – with Anthony Gordon even endorsing the move.
But they are the first side to open negotiations – although according to David Ornstein’s report for The Athletic, Guehi is high on a few club’s lists.
This could indicate that Newcastle won’t be alone in their interest for long – but Ornstein also added a line on how Palace could be feeling about the approach.
It’s reported Palace may be encouraged to entertain a sale now, considering Guehi’s £50k-a-week contract expires in 2026, and there is little chance of it being extended.
To make a sale more likely, the Eagles already have the replacement in the form of Chadi Riad signed. But Guehi’s exit would bring a need for another centre-back to be signed.

Dougie Freedman has Guehi conundrum to solve
This time last year, if you’d asked any Palace fan if would they sell Guehi it would be a resounding no.
But since then, Oliver Glasner has shown that he’s not necessarily needed, with much of the impressive performances being played without Guehi.
In pre-season, we’ve also seen the Eagles shining without the previously irreplaceable defender, as Riad has settled in perfectly alongside Joachim Andersen and Chris Richards.
Therefore, keeping Guehi if an offer of around £60m or more does get submitted seems ludicrous, especially as this is the highest his value will be. Palace could easily use that money to strengthen the squad ahead of a push for Europe.
