The anger is palpable among sections of the Crystal Palace fanbase as Oliver Glasner signs a three-year deal with Nottingham Forest.
It was insinuated that the Austrian was heading for greater things when Steve Parish said Glasner “has things that he wants to do” after leaving Crystal Palace, leaving many to accept his exit on the basis he would be joining a giant such as Manchester United or AC Milan.
Not only that, but his decision to take a £13m-a-year deal at Nottingham Forest comes just 12 months after that very club ruined his summer of preparation in 2025 after making a pathetic complaint to UEFA.
Some feel betrayed by Glasner, but while everybody is entitled to their own emotions on the matter, it would be crass of us as a fanbase to boo the 51-year-old when he returns to Selhurst Park with Nottingham Forest on Saturday 10th October.
Would Oliver Glasner ruin his Crystal Palace legacy by moving to Nottingham Forest? 🤔
Oliver Glasner does not deserve to be booed
Look at it this way. The man from Salzburg has accepted this role quite late into the summer. It strongly suggests he was hoping to manage AC Milan or Manchester United – Chelsea had a vacancy too – only for his options to run out.
It is hardly like Glasner pushed for Nottingham Forest and Nottingham Forest only.
Evangelos Marinakis approached the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss with a yearly package of £13m – only Mikel Arteta earns more in the Premier League – and considering his playing career was cut short due to a brain haemorrhage, he does not have the vast savings of most former footballers.

With regard to what Glasner has done for Crystal Palace, he has enough credit in the bank to even justify a move to Brighton if he wanted to do so.
Having been in existence since 1861 and winning nothing for 164 years, it took Glasner just 15 months to win us a first major trophy in the FA Cup – beating none other than Pep Guardiola to the famous silverware as well as a side containing greats such as Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.
Not to be too morbid, but many a Crystal Palace fan have lived and died without seeing such a sight.
We should be eternally grateful. Glasner not only delivered one historic day, but two as he also led us to our first European title with that 1-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano in Leipzig. Three if you count the Community Shield win over Liverpool, which in itself was a fine achievement considering the Reds had just won the Premier League title.

The only time Glasner turned a bit nasty towards the fanbase was in the aftermath of that spat with Parish over the sudden sale of Marc Guehi to Manchester City in January 2026.
Glasner was booed when coming over to applaud the fans after the 2-1 loss at Sunderland, which then transpired into chants of “sacked in the morning” during the 1-1 draw away to Zrinjski Mostar.
That led the Austrian to tell the fanbase to “stay humble” – but the waters eventually calmed and European glory materialised.
That argument was only born out of Glasner wanting the best for Crystal Palace by keeping a vital player in Guehi around. Not once did he criticise the club itself, with his frustrations solely aimed at Parish – a man we have all had a pop at over the years at least once.
“I take with me many happy memories, but what stands out is the atmosphere you created at Selhurst Park on matchdays – the emotion, the intensity, the noise; all of which have provided the fuel for our talented players to express themselves and give their best.
“We created a mindset that we could compete. That doesn’t mean you win every single game. But we have shown that Crystal Palace can fight against the very best teams at home and across the continent.
“We had the perfect ending in Leipzig. It was a game that showed just what this group have become. A team that refuses to give in and backs each other every step of the way. It’ll give me great pride to watch you in the Europa League next season where I know you, the supporters, will give the team every chance of having another successful season.”
Without a doubt, it was a surprise to see Glasner rock up at Nottingham Forest, but his decision should not be taken personally by Crystal Palace fans.
There is little loyalty in football. Glasner came in, made history on several occasions during his two-and-a-half years in charge with us, and has now tripled his wages with a move to the City Ground.
Initial thoughts on Pierre Sage? 🤔
He can boast a 67.5% win ratio from 40 games at RC Lens 😍
If supporters still believe Glasner deserves to be booed on October 10th, then we will simply have to agree to disagree.
