How much more Nottingham Forest will pay Oliver Glasner than Crystal Palace did

Oliver Glasner is on the verge of taking over at Nottingham Forest in what is a quite incredible development.

The Austrian left Crystal Palace at the end of last season – literally bowing out with the UEFA Conference League trophy in Leipzig – with many expecting the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss to move up a level. There were vacancies at Manchester United, Chelsea and AC Milan at the time of his exit.

However, the Telegraph are now claiming that Glasner will join Nottingham Forest after Evangelos Marinakis brutally sacked Vitor Pereira by email, just two minutes before a clause allowing him to do so expired.

Many are baffled by this sideways step, especially as Nottingham Forest have no European football next season while Crystal Palace are in the UEFA Europa League, but it seems the 51-year-old has been swayed by the money.

Would Oliver Glasner ruin his Crystal Palace legacy by moving to Nottingham Forest? 🤔

Oliver Glasner set to double his salary at Nottingham Forest

The man born in Salzburg reportedly earned £4m-a-year at Crystal Palace, according to SalaryLeaks.

However – according to the Daily Mail – Glasner is now set to become one of the highest earners in the Premier League, with his wages at Nottingham Forest expected to be ‘not be too far behind’ the bracket of £10m to £12m which Unai Emery, Andoni Iraola, Enzo Maresca and Roberto De Zerbi are all said to be in.

It is undoubtedly a weird move from the most successful manager in the history of Crystal Palace, but you can start to see how Marinakis – who rejected the Austrian in 2023 – has convinced Glasner when you consider the finances involved.

The 2025 FA Cup winner is also set to have a large transfer budget to spend after Nottingham Forest agreed to sell Elliot Anderson to Manchester City for £116m – which we hope he doesn’t use to target the best players at Selhurst Park.

Nothing will change what Glasner did for the Eagles, but it unquestionably leaves a stain on his legacy to see him depart for a rival side in Nottingham Forest – who caused us such angst in the summer of 2025 after those complaints to UEFA.
