The Premier League have now announced that Oliver Glasner has won the Manager of the Month award.

Throughout September, the Austrian guided Crystal Palace to seven points from a possible nine, achieving 2-1 wins over Liverpool and West Ham along with a 0-0 draw against Sunderland.

While it is nice to see Oliver Glasner earn recognition for his efforts, the award carries a famous curse the more superstitious Crystal Palace fans need to know about.

Premier League Manager of the Month award has often been followed by poor results

History shows that this award often carries bad luck.

Nuno Espirito Santo – once a target for Steve Parish – was even sacked at Tottenham just 52 days after being named Manager of the Month back in August 2021, and he is not the only one to suffer.

Thomas Tuchel won the award in October 2021 after guiding Chelsea to four consecutive wins, but then proceeded to taste victory in just four of the next 13 league games.

Furthermore, Mikel Arteta, a manager who has actually acknowledged the curse in the media, suffered a harrowing 3-0 defeat at Selhurst Park only three days after scooping the prize back in April 2022.

More recently, Arne Slot was named Premier League Manager of the Month in September after guiding Liverpool to a perfect start to the 2025/26 campaign.

However, the Dutchman just lost three games in a row as the Reds fell to defeats against Crystal Palace, Galatasaray and Chelsea.

Hopefully, Glasner, who Jose Mourinho praised, can overcome the curse, although the 51-year-old has a challenging fixture list to contend with as he aims to avoid a dismal run like the aforementioned managers experienced.

Next four games will put Crystal Palace to the test

The Eagles just saw a historic 19-game unbeaten run end at Everton, and the next four games will be a huge test for a side attracting global attention at the moment.

As you can see, a tricky game against Bournemouth – who sit fifth – awaits after the international break, before Glasner faces AEK Larnaca in the UEFA Conference League, Arsenal in the Premier League, and then Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

The Manager of the Month award has often cursed many, but hopefully, the remarkable Austrian can continue to work his magic at Crystal Palace by overcoming it.
