Jose Mourinho has a soft spot for Crystal Palace.
The man born in Setubal memorably applauded Crystal Palace fans during a game between the Eagles and Chelsea back in May 2015 – also making a sleeping gesture to the Stamford Bridge faithful in an attempt to coax some noise out of them.
Oliver Glasner has now revealed during an interview with SPORT BILD that Jose Mourinho personally congratulated him after guiding Crystal Palace to FA Cup glory last season.
Jose Mourinho sent classy message to Oliver Glasner
The Crystal Palace boss was recognised by the League Managers Association back in May, scooping up the John Duncan Award – which “recognises those who have achieved historic and notable successes for their clubs” in a single campaign.
Discussing that moment, Glasner told SPORT BILD: “Jose Mourinho sat next to me at the table and personally congratulated me on winning the cup. The appreciation among colleagues for one another is very high.”
The 62-year-old has acted with class throughout his career, and clearly has not changed a bit as he congratulated the Austrian unprompted.
Mourinho – who Crystal Palace fans wanted to replace Roy Hodgson back in October 2023 – recently signed a contract with Benfica which runs until 2027, but there has been plenty to suggest he would be interested in managing the Eagles one day.
What Jose Mourinho has previously said about Crystal Palace
Not only did the Portuguese tactician applaud Crystal Palace fans back in 2015, but he could also be seen nodding as supporters chanted: “Jose, he’s a Palace fan.”
Two years before that game – however – Mourinho actually praised Crystal Palace fans directly in 2013, with the Daily Mail quoting him as saying: “Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic fans. They support their team until the end, they pushed them all the time. I was impressed with Palace today and I wish them well.”

Glasner could leave in July when his contract expires, although talks are taking place with the 51-year-old over an extension.
Should he end up leaving SE25 – however – there is enough evidence in our eyes to suggest that Mourinho would be interested in the role when he eventually departs Benfica.
