Oliver Glasner has got Crystal Palace on fire and he’ll have loved what he saw his side do against Newcastle United.
It was win number three in a row for Crystal Palace on Wednesday and once again it came against top opposition.
A very comfortable 2-0 win over Newcastle demonstrates just how far Palace have come under Oliver Glasner, in a short time.
In the game, Jean-Philippe Mateta was on the scoresheet twice as he continued his ‘fantastic’ form.
Scoring at Selhurst Park means he’s become the first Palace player to score in five consecutive games.
He also is now Europe’s second-top scorer in the top five leagues since Glasner took charge, with eight only Cole Palmer has more with 10.
But aside from Mateta, there were several other standout performers with Will Hughes being one to catch fan’s eyes.
Now there’s one moment we noticed involving another player.
Oliver Glasner loved what Jordan Ayew did in the 18th minute
In the 18th minute, Palace sat at 0-0 against Newcastle, however, already were dominating the opposition.
On BBC’s live commentary of the game, journalist Alex Howell was watching and noticed Glasner reacting to something Jordan Ayew did.
He wrote in the 18th minute of the game about Palace’s domination.
“It’s been a very positive start from Crystal Palace. They’ve had most of the ball so far and pinned Newcastle back.”
After this, he mentioned that Glasner had enjoyed Ayew’s near miss as he saw his shot sail wide.
“Oliver Glasner just clapped the Jordan Ayew shot that went wide on their last attack.”
Like so many who struggled under Roy Hodgson, Ayew has also shone bright and makes his £2.5m fee look a bargain.

Crystal Palace could be about to challenge for the top 10
Right now, Palace are in the best form we’ve seen for quite some time, and suddenly there’s a huge gap to 15th.
As that gap has opened up, the gap between the clubs in 13th or above has been closed. Just three points behind Fulham and six behind Bournemouth, Palace could end up in the battle midtable.
When looking at the fixtures remaining, based on recent form, there’s no reason it can’t be done.

Beating Fulham on Saturday would be huge for Palace and would have them draw level on points.
For Glasner, this early drastic improvement will be surprising given it initially looked like he had a tough job on his hands.
But now, there’s no telling how high he can take the Eagles.
