Adam Wharton has finally undergone an operation after struggling with a groin injury for a number of months now.
The Crystal Palace No.20 suffered damage to his groin while on UEFA Euro 2024 duty with England during the summer – unfortunately carrying the problem into the 2024/25 campaign.
Wharton was even taking painkillers to ensure he could still play for Crystal Palace in the meantime, but after a number of setbacks – the latest of which came during our Carabao Cup win over Aston Villa – a decision was made to send the England international in for surgery.
Now – on Instagram – Adam Wharton has provided an update for Crystal Palace fans.
Adam Wharton reveals his operation went well
The £22m man posted a four-word update on his Instagram account after going under the knife.
Wharton wrote “successful op, back soon” along with a photo of himself laying in a hospital bed, a message every Crystal Palace fan was eagerly waiting for after hearing the 20-year-old would be sent in for surgery.
The word is that Wharton should be back in training within four weeks after his operation, which is not a nightmare for Oliver Glasner – especially with two weeks of international football on the horizon.
Justin Devenny could make Crystal Palace debut while Adam Wharton recovers
Wharton will obviously miss Saturday’s Premier League clash against Fulham at Selhurst Park after undergoing surgery, and Will Hughes is also absent for that game after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Wolves on Saturday.
With Jefferson Lerma also nursing a hamstring injury, we could see a Premier League debut for Justin Devenny against the Cottagers.

Glasner has already hinted he could use Devenny amid something of an injury crisis in midfield, and the Northern Ireland U21 international may be partnered by Cheick Doucoure, who is back in the squad after fitness issues of his own.
