Crystal Palace remain in talks with Andoni Iraola.
The Spaniard has already secured UEFA Europa League football for Bournemouth and can even qualify for the UEFA Champions League with a win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday – after Aston Villa beat Freiburg in the UEFA Europa League final.
Iraola is amazingly on a run of 17 Premier League games without defeat at Bournemouth, but his future remains a mystery having already announced his decision to leave the Vitality Stadium.
It is Foot Mercato who claim that Crystal Palace are still holding discussions with the 43-year-old about a move to Selhurst Park, but a huge issue could be looming for Steve Parish as Liverpool begin to show interest amid doubts over Arne Slot.
Would you try to keep Glasner or push for Iraola? 👀
Liverpool could yet hire Andoni Iraola
The French news outlet believe Liverpool are now seriously considering a change in the dugout.
Slot has overseen a miserable defence of the Premier League title this term, with Liverpool currently sitting fifth and on a run of seven defeats in the last 13 games across all competitions.
Not only are Liverpool a European giant with the pulling power to attract Iraola – who likes Yeremy Pino – but Richard Hughes is also currently in place as Director of Football at Anfield, the very same man who lured the Spaniard to Bournemouth back in June 2023 after deciding to dismiss Gary O’Neil.
Iraola is understood to want a move to London – a detail reported by both the Telegraph and respected journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
Obviously, those at Anfield cannot provide that geographical wish for the man born in Usurbil, but given the size of Liverpool, the quality of the squad and the chance to manage in the UEFA Champions League, their interest is undoubtedly a problem for Crystal Palace.
Parish can only hope Liverpool keep faith with Slot and give the Dutchman another season to turn the situation around.
Crystal Palace only recently managed to shake off the threat of Chelsea – who admire Iraola but opted to hire Xabi Alonso as a replacement for Liam Rosenior.
Who do YOU want as the next Crystal Palace boss? 🤔
Manchester United were mentioned as competition too, but have since chosen to appoint Michael Carrick.
