Crystal Palace have a rich history when it comes to promoting talent from the academy.
In recent times, the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Tyrick Mitchell and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi have emerged from the youth ranks at Selhurst Park, while stars such as Wilfried Zaha and Victor Moses came before them.
Now, Crystal Palace are starting to feel very excited by another prospect shining in the academy…
Crystal Palace excited by Justin Devenny
A story from The Athletic now states that Crystal Palace have high hopes for Justin Devenny.
The 20-year-old has been shining in central midfield for the U21 side ever since Dougie Freedman signed him from Airdrieonians back in August 2023, scoring four goals and providing two assists in 14 Premier League 2 appearances last season.
Devenny was even included in Crystal Palace’s squad for the pre-season tour of the United States recently, as Oliver Glasner rewarded him for his efforts in the development ranks.
The Athletic believe those at Selhurst Park have large expectations for the Northern Ireland U21 international, who is also capable of playing on the left.
Glasner also took the Irishman to Marbella for a warm weather training camp back in March, where Devenny left Ebere Eze visibly shocked after scoring a powerful header beyond Remi Matthews.
20-year-old will have to be patient
While Devenny is obviously a huge talent, we believe he will have to be patient for a chance at Crystal Palace.
Glasner’s central midfield department is already stacked with quality, as Cheick Doucoure, Adam Wharton, Jefferson Lerma and Will Hughes jostle for just two positions in the Austrian’s preferred 5-2-3 formation.
David Ozoh was the closest to disrupting the pecking order last season, making nine Premier League appearances, although the 19-year-old has since been loaned to Derby, due to the competition for places in central midfield.

Therefore, we feel Devenny will need to embark on a loan move of his own, before he can make a name for himself at Crystal Palace.
