Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.
Crystal Palace are flying across the pond for the first time since 2016 with a pre-season tour of the United States of America. So, here is everything you need to know about the Selhurst Park natives’ plans in 2023.
The Eagles are heading Stateside this summer for a couple of high-profile friendlies ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League season. A handful of domestic meetings will also supplement their schedule as the south London outfit prepare for another season under Roy Hodgson following his return as the club’s manager.
Patrick Vieira oversaw Crystal Palace’s successful pre-season plans last summer as the Eagles enjoyed a tour of Australia and Singapore. So, the Selhurst Park side sought a return to America for the first time in seven years in 2023. And here is everything you need to know about Crystal Palace’s pre-season tour…
When does Crystal Palace’s pre-season start?
The Crystal Palace first-team squad regrouped at their Copers Cope Road training ground to start their pre-season training on June 30 in 2023. But the Eagles’ players did not train under Hodgson until July 3, the day he returned as their manager. Hodgson initially left after the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.
Eagles players returned to Beckenham at the end of June to begin undergoing fitness tests ahead of the new campaign. While the south London outfit’s players who were on international duty in June returned to their training ground on July 11. Crystal Palace’s first pre-season friendly under Hodgson is on July 11.
Vieira instructed his players and select members of Crystal Palace’s academy to return to their training ground on June 29 in 2022. The Frenchman brought their stars back together 38 days after the 2021/22 Premier League campaign concluded with the Eagles’ first friendly of the summer taking place on July 2.
Crystal Palace’s fixture list for their 2023 pre-season
As of July 11, Crystal Palace have confirmed seven friendlies for the summer of 2023, with two forming a part of their pre-season tour of the United States. The Eagles will meet two lower-division English teams before boarding their plane across the pond. Crystal Palace will only host Ligue 1’s Lyon at Selhurst Park.

Barnet will host Crystal Palace at The Hive in the Eagles’ first friendly of the summer this year. The teams confirmed the fixture on June 6 with their first meeting since July 2019. The National League outfit – who finished in fifth place in 2022/23 before losing in the play-offs – stunned Crystal Palace 6-2 four years ago.
Two behind-closed-doors friendlies at the Crystal Palace Academy will also supplement the Eagles’ pre-season plans in 2023. Hodgson will firstly welcome Danish giants Brondby IF to the club’s training ground. While Hertfordshire natives Watford will also visit the Academy ahead of their new Championship season.
Crystal Palace will also continue their pre-season plans on the road with a trip to Crawley Town. The game has been on the calendar since May 19 and sees the Eagles face last term’s 22nd-place League Two side. The Reds avoided relegation from the Football League by just three points at Hartlepool United’s expense.
A plane then awaits Crystal Palace to fly them to America for friendlies against Colombia’s 15-time league champions, Millonarios, and La Liga side, Sevilla. The Eagles announced their return to the USA on June 5. It is also their first time meeting a Colombian team and they play Millonarios for The Chicago Nations Cup.
Additionally, Crystal Palace will travel to Detroit to face Sevilla for the first time, as well. Los Nervionenses ended the 2022/23 La Liga campaign down in just 12th place. But Jose Luis Mendilibar guided the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan natives to their seventh Europa League title with a 4-1 win on penalties against AS Roma.
Lyon then await Crystal Palace back in south London as Hodgson’s squad concludes their pre-season in a home friendly. The Eagles will only play one match on home soil before starting the Premier League season away at Sheffield United on August 12. Lyon only ended the 2022/23 Ligue 1 campaign in seventh place.
