Crystal Palace are yet to release shirt numbers for the 2024/25 campaign – although one key player now appears to have taken the No.5 after James Tomkins departed.

The 35-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract at Selhurst Park expired on July 1st.

So, who seems to have taken the No.5 shirt after James Tomkins left Crystal Palace? Let’s take a look…

Joachim Andersen may have taken No.5 shirt at Crystal Palace

During Saturday’s 6-3 win over Crawley Town, Joachim Andersen could be seen wearing the No.5 shirt.

As aforesaid, Crystal Palace are yet to release the official list of squad numbers for the 2024/25 campaign, although every other player appears to be wearing their normal number during pre-season so far except for the Denmark international, and it would make sense if he has taken the No.5 shirt.

Andersen has previously worn the No.16 shirt since his £17m move from Lyon back in July 2021 – a number that is not exactly a traditional one for a central defender, unlike the No.5 jersey.

In other news, Daichi Kamada was seen wearing the No.18 shirt – which had been left vacant ever since James McArthur departed Selhurst Park at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

Our other new signing, Chadi Riad, could be spotted wearing the No.34 shirt.

It remains to be seen if the Morocco international and Kamada will keep those numbers, but Andersen was the only player wearing a different shirt number than he usually does for the Eagles, which is telling.

What number Ismaila Sarr could take at Selhurst Park

After signing Riad and Kamada, Ismaila Sarr is set to become Crystal Palace’s third capture of the summer as he undergoes a medical.

A £12.7m deal has been agreed with Marseille for the Senegal international.

Sarr wore the No.23 shirt at both Watford and Marseille, a number which is currently owned by Malcolm Ebiowei.

However, the England U20 international is a loan target for Oxford United, so if that deal materialises before Sarr completes his medical, we would expect the Senegalese forward to take it.

The 26-year-old has also previously worn the No.7 shirt at Rennes, which has just been vacated by Michael Olise, so that is another option for the £12.7m man.
