Forget Nketiah, Jamie Carragher says £7m Crystal Palace star completely exposed Liverpool

Jamie Carragher has explained how Crystal Palace player Daniel Munoz completely exposed Liverpool on Saturday.

Last weekend, Crystal Palace beat Liverpool 2-1 at Selhurst Park thanks to goals from Ismaila Sarr in the first half, then Eddie Nketiah in the 97th minute of the game.

The win sees Palace move up into 3rd place of the Premier League table and now just three points behind leaders Liverpool, and one behind Arsenal in 2nd.

Palace’s fine start to the season rumbles on and Oliver Glasner really looks like he has a side capable of competing in Europe this season, and capable of achieving another European finish too.

One key player is Daniel Munoz.

Jamie Carragher hails brilliant Daniel Munoz moment for Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

Crystal Palace signed Munoz from Genk midway through the 2023/24 season, and straight away it was clear that he could create chances. He grabbed himself four assists in 16 games in his first half season at Crystal Palace, then five assists and four goals in 37 Premier League games last time out.

The Eagles’ £7million full-back has one assist in six Premier League games so far this season. But Jamie Carragher thinks he played a key role in Nketiah’s winner against Liverpool last time out, playing a quick throw in ahead of the long throw that lead to the late winner.

Carragher said on Sky Sports: “People think Liverpool lost the game because of a long throw in. I don’t think they did. Liverpool lost the game because of a throw in on the halfway line. That’s why they lost the game.”

Carragher went on to add: “They think the game’s over. It’s finished. That’s a cardinal sin. That’s something you’re told as a young boy. Never take your eye off the ball. And again, they just think, ‘Okay, we’re going to get our 1-1’ if you like. Look how slow Munoz is going. When he takes the quick throw in, the ball comes into the player. Kerkez is bending down because he’s either shattered or he’s fixing his shin pad.

“That can’t be possible at this level of football. Five players not watching the ball. Kerkez now not challenging his man, bending down. And then you have a situation where you’ve got five players ahead of the ball on a throw in in the last minute of the game. Again, not acceptable at this level of football.”

Could Daniel Munoz soon be on his way out of Crystal Palace?

There’s no doubting that Munoz is a key player for Crystal Palace. Nor can it be denied that the right-back has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League.

But as he continues to shine then there’s only going to be more and more clubs starting to take a look at him, as we saw at the start of the summer with the likes of Barcelona linked with a move for Munoz.

Interestingly, Munoz previously revealed how he wants to play for Barcelona one day, so despite signing a new contract until 2028 this year, Munoz could be someone who keeps on coming up in transfer headlines.

Right now though, he’s surely happy at Palace who are defying expectations under Glasner.

Up next is a game against Dynamo Kyiv in the Conference League on Thursday, with kick off at 5:45pm.
