Crystal Palace No.6 Marc Guehi is still being pursued by Newcastle.
The Magpies spent most of the summer transfer window chasing the England international as Eddie Howe sought a new central defender, but a deal never materialised.
Newcastle made several bids for Guehi – the last of which was worth £70m – but Steve Parish held firm to keep his £18m defender at Selhurst Park.
Now – however – Newcastle could have a better chance of signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in January.
Marc Guehi willing to join Newcastle in January
A story from The Northern Echo now states that the 24-year-old would be keen on a move to Tyneside this winter if Newcastle do submit a new bid.
The report claims that Guehi was enticed by the prospect of joining Newcastle last summer, and that stance is not believed to have changed as we approach the end of 2024.
Newcastle are confident they can meet the England international’s wage demands – according to The Northern Echo – and Crystal Palace may opt to cash in, having found discussions over a new contract to be rather difficult.

Guehi’s current terms expire in July 2026, so the upcoming January transfer window represents Parish’s last chance to make a sizeable fee from a sale, as the man from Abidjan’s value will decrease significantly should we reach a point where he only has 12 months remaining on his contract.
The Northern Echo add that Newcastle recognise this, and are unlikely to put the same £70m offer back on the table in January.
Crystal Palace have Marc Guehi replacement in mind
Dougie Freedman – Director of Football at Crystal Palace – seems prepared for another bid from Newcastle.
A story from O Jogo in Portugal recently claimed that Crystal Palace have made new contact with Benfica over Tomas Araujo – who the Eagles also tried to sign last summer.
Interestingly, the Portuguese news outlet add that Newcastle are also keen on the 22-year-old, so the Magpies could turn to him instead if they fail with another swoop for Guehi.
Whatever happens, Freedman – who Newcastle wanted before hiring Paul Mitchell – seems well prepared, having already signed Chadi Riad from Real Betis last summer to step in if needed.
