How Palace fans reacted as Forest result was announced inside Selhurst Park

There remains some bad blood between Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.

Fans will recall the legal feud last summer, in which Nottingham Forest complained to UEFA about the fact Lyon and Crystal Palace were in the Europa League, but both owned by John Textor at the time.

Evangelos Marinakis eventually got what he wanted as UEFA demoted Crystal Palace to the Conference League in breach of multi-club regulations and bumped Nottingham Forest into the Europa League at our expense.

With the Eagles now in the UEFA Conference League final and one win away from reclaiming that UEFA Europa League spot – with another trophy to boot – there was joy inside Selhurst Park as fans learned Nottingham Forest had been knocked out of the Europa League by Aston Villa.

Was that our GREATEST night at Selhurst Park? 🤔

Crystal Palace fans celebrate as Aston Villa hammer Nottingham Forest

Unai Emery overturned a 1-0 deficit to inspire Aston Villa to a 4-0 win over the Reds at Villa Park on Thursday night, booking a spot in the final against Freiburg and sending Nottingham Forest out of Europe.

The news went down well inside Selhurst Park, as fans – who were already celebrating the win over Shakhtar Donetsk – let out an even louder roar after the stadium announcer revealed the score at Villa Park.

You can hear the reaction after 1:05 seconds in the video below.

Jean-Philippe Mateta certainly seemed to enjoy the news!

Of course, we still need to overcome Rayo Vallecano in Leipzig, but the Eagles – who have now banked more prize money – are on the verge of making the very best of what felt an unjust situation last summer.

Not only could we soon be playing UEFA Europa League football anyway, but it may also happen on route to securing a first European trophy – which would be a quite remarkable way to follow up the FA Cup success of last season.
