Sam Johnstone has now reacted after Dean Henderson took his No.1 shirt at Crystal Palace.
Johnstone has asked to leave Crystal Palace after Oliver Glasner decided that Henderson would remain the No.1 goalkeeper at Selhurst Park, and that change has now been reflected through kit numbers, as the Crystal Palace No.30 takes the No.1 shirt away from his fellow England international.
So, how has Sam Johnstone reacted to Dean Henderson taking the No.1 shirt? Let’s have a look…
How Sam Johnstone has responded to kit number drama
While the Daily Mail made things out to be quite toxic in the goalkeeping department at Crystal Palace, it seems as if the 31-year-old is fine with the change.
Johnstone has now posted a photo of himself on Instagram wearing the No.32 on his training gear at Copers Cope, along with the caption: “New day new number 😂😂😂😂”.
As you can see, the man from Preston is smiling in the photo, and he seemingly has no issues with the change of shirt number after he told Glasner about his desire to leave.
It simply makes sense for Henderson to take the No.1 shirt if he is literally going to be No.1 under the Austrian, and with the 2024/25 campaign starting this week, the change in number had to be made now, regardless of the fact Johnstone is yet to actually find a new club.
Crystal Palace No.32 has options
Crystal Palace’s new No.32 is certainly not short of suitors, which comes as no surprise given his status as an England international with 66 Premier League appearances.
Fabrizio Romano has recently revealed that Southampton, Leicester and Wolves have all made approaches to sign the Manchester United academy graduate this summer.
Crystal Palace are asking for bids in the region of £10m to sell Johnstone – which would represent huge profit in the books, given the fact he was signed for free in July 2022.
