The redevelopment of the Main Stand at Selhurst Park is underway as Crystal Palace begin to break ground on the project.
Steve Parish is finally seeing some movement on the project he first announced to the fanbase back in 2017 – with the intention of increasing matchday revenue – as the houses on Wooderson Close are knocked down.
Respected reporter Andrew McSteen has now posted four new photos on X (previously known as Twitter) to give fans a visual update on how the redevelopment of Selhurst Park is progressing.
How are we feeling about this news, Crystal Palace fans? 🔴 🔵
Could be one of the most important deals we do this summer 🦅
Rubble and diggers on show as Crystal Palace break new ground in SE25
New images show machinery clearing out the ground on Wooderson Close where those six houses previously sat beside the main entrance to Selhurst Park.
Work is well underway to level out that part of the area, before construction is then expected to move further along towards the fan zone and the Sainsbury’s car park.
The project is set to cost around £200m in total, much more than the initial £100m Crystal Palace expected the new Main Stand to cost. This increase was largely due to the global pandemic and the subsequent rise in prices for construction materials.

There will be no friendly match at Selhurst Park this summer due to the ongoing construction, although the Main Stand will remain open for the entirety of the project – which is expected to be complete in the early months of 2029.
The expectation is that the capacity of Selhurst Park will rise from 26,000 to beyond 34,000 once the new Main Stand is finished.
Initial thoughts on Pierre Sage? 🤔
He can boast a 67.5% win ratio from 40 games at RC Lens 😍
As work begins on a new £200m stand, while the FA Cup, Community Shield and UEFA Conference League sit in the trophy cabinet inside Selhurst Park, nobody can say that this is not a wildly exciting time to be a Crystal Palace fan.
