Oliver Glasner took over as the new Crystal Palace manager in February, but now co-owner John Textor has spoken about this appointment.

Crystal Palace struck gold by appointing Europa League-winning manager Oliver Glasner as the new boss following Roy Hodgson‘s departure.

Glasner arrived and instantly made a difference, overseeing a 3-0 win in his first game to pull clear of a relegation battle.

John Textor, co-owner of Palace, has long admired the Austrian manager and even tried to hire him at Lyon earlier this season.

Now the American billionaire has shared the real reason Glasner didn’t get the job at Lyon and has ended up at Selhurst Park instead.

John Textor gives verdict on Oliver Glasner

Speaking with BBC Sport reporter Alex Howell, Textor opened up about multiple things, including his views on Glasner and how he ended up in the dugout at Palace.

“Everybody knows I’ve been following Oliver Glasner around forever. I love him.

Steve [Parish] met him independently and he made his own decision on Oliver Glasner.”

Textor then explained exactly why Glasner ended up not being the manager of Lyon, instead now the Eagles boss.

“I’ll tell you why we liked him back from Lyon. If he spoke French he would be the coach of Lyon now.”

Glasner’s appointment at Crystal Palace looks more planned out by the day

With Hodgson holding onto his role for so long and eventually stepping down, it may have been perceived that Palace were panicking and choosing a manager that wasn’t well planned.

But as we learn more about the appointment, it becomes evident that it was in fact the opposite of this.

Glasner revealed in his first interview that he’s been at Selhurst Park meeting Parish all the way back in November and now also points towards this move being a masterstroke from Palace.
