As he likely sits on holiday, Jean-Philippe Mateta has sent Crystal Palace fans a message, one Wilfried Zaha has responded to.
After the arrival of Oliver Glasner at Selhurst Park, no player benefitted more than Jean-Philippe Mateta who effectively went from zero to hero.
The Frenchman was superb in the past three months of the season as he ended the season with a tremendous 19 goals and five assists in all competitions.
The fantastic striker has been so good that he’s undoubtedly forced himself into Glasner’s plans for next season when previously a new starting striker was thought to be needed.
Now he’s sent fans a message, with a response from one club great catching the eye.
Mateta sends a message as Zaha responds
Mateta has taken to his Instagram with a message for the Eagles fans with the season now nearly two weeks gone.
“Thank you all for this great season. Thank you to my team-mates, the coach, the staff and all the incredible fans who supported us until this last victory at home. JP”.
Mateta’s message shows how humble he is and why he’s so popular at Selhurst Park with the fans and players.
Under his message, in the comments, Wilfried Zaha sent Mateta two messages back in response.
He wrote: “What a season bro !” and then continued with a second comment, writing: “JP with the shirt tucked in hitting different”.
Zaha wasn’t the only one to comment though as Mateta’s current teammates also sent messages.
Adam Wharton simply wrote: “FANTASTIC”, with a heart eye emoji.
David Ozoh wrote: “BOOM”, while Chris Richards commented similarly: “JPBOOOOOOOM”.
Mateta doesn’t need to be replaced by Crystal Palace
Before Mateta’s explosive form, this summer looked like it would see a new striker targetted, something which would’ve broken the bank.
A £40m move for Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah was suggested which would potentially be a massive risk given he’s arguably no better than Mateta.
With Odsonne Edouard likely to leave, a second-choice striker must be signed, but Mateta has earned the right to go into 2024/25 considered the first-choice striker.
It does remain to be seen if it was a purple patch, but if Glasner can continue getting those performances out of Palace and Mateta, he could be in line to become a club legend.
