John Textor has done a lot of good for Crystal Palace with his multi-club model, now it appears he nearly signed one wonderkid.
Crystal Palace‘s ownership model is a complicated one, with a minority owner like Steve Parish having more control than his fellow owners.
John Textor is one who brought money but in return answers to Parish which must be annoying.
With his hands in multiple different clubs including Lyon, the link is strong with Palace. This could be seen for example in the sale of Jake O’Brien and also the fact both clubs wanted Oliver Glasner.
Now though it’s emerged that Textor almost took a talented 21-year-old to Selhurst Park, only to opt to sign him for his other club in Belgium, Molenbeek.
Matias Segovia could have ended up at Crystal Palace
According to the Belgian outlet DH, Paraguayan talent Matias Segovia could actually have ended up at Palace if Textor had made a different call.
After the 21-year-old joined Botafogo in 2023 (another Textor club) from Guarani where he was under watch from Barcelona at the time, a move to Europe was next.
Textor is said to have considered Lyon and Palace before ultimately settling on RWDM due to a dip in form.
The Belgian side signed Segovia on a loan until June before his next move will be weighed up, potentially seeing him make a permanent move to Europe.
Of course, if he develops into the player expected, Palace could be handed a second chance in the future, but he won’t be this summer’s Michael Olise replacement that’s for sure.

Who is Matias Segovia?
Born in 2003, Matias Segovia is a Paraguayan U20 international with 14 caps and a goal. He was born in Caaguazu, Paraguay and now plays in Belgium for John Textor-owned RWDM.
Since arriving on loan, he has made two appearances for RWDM and is a fairly versatile forward player which should bode well for his chance at adding minutes going forward.
He is a technical player who has yet to add goals and assists to his game regularly with just two assists in 29 games for Botafogo.
A player far from Palace and the Premier League right now, but he clearly has potential, he just needs to realise it.
