John Textor has been trying to sell his 45% stake in Crystal Palace for many months now.
The American is currently engaged in talks with Farhad Moshiri in regards to the purchase of Everton – although due to a conflict of interests, he would need to detach himself from Crystal Palace first.
In case you missed it, Textor admitted earlier in 2024 that he and Steve Parish had differing views on multi-club ownership, while Ed Aarons of the Guardian added that the 58-year-old was “growing increasingly frustrated” as he wanted greater control of the Eagles.
Now – however – a development has occurred which could see John Textor remain at Crystal Palace. For now, at least…
Dan Friedkin reignites interest in buying Everton to provide new competition for John Textor
A story from Bloomberg now states that Dan Friedkin has resurrected talks to buy Everton.
The owner of Italian giants Roma pulled out of a £400m takeover bid back in July, which allowed Textor to engage in discussions with Moshiri.
Now – however – if Friedkin is successful in this new round of negotiations to buy the Toffees, it would leave the Crystal Palace majority stakeholder in limbo.
It remains to be seen if Textor would follow through with the attempted sale of his 45% stake in Crystal Palace, or sit on it until another Premier League club becomes available.
Potential issues at Crystal Palace
If Textor does end up coming back to Selhurst Park with his tail between his legs after a failed attempt to buy Everton, it may cause problems at boardroom level.
The man known as a virtual reality guru in the United States has already revealed that he attempted to buy out Parish, Josh Harris and David Blitzer before pushing on with a bid to take over at Everton, an offer which did not “induce a response” – as detailed by the Guardian.
Effectively, the other three directors at Crystal Palace ignored Textor, which, coupled with the previous stories of disagreements with Parish, would strongly suggest that he cannot work productively alongside the man from Forest Hill, nor Blitzer and Harris.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation – however – as Textor could still manage to fend off Friedkin in the race to buy Everton.
