Crystal Palace’s youngsters are continuing to impress while they feature for their loan clubs during the early stages of the season.
David Ozoh has started life well at Derby County as the midfielder settles into his first season at Championship level.
Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is another star currently playing at that level, earning his first run out with Sheffield United before the international break.
Despite that duo, and plenty of other loan stars, taking two weeks out of action due to the international break, there are still some loanees playing throughout.
One of those is Roshaun Mathurin, who recently made the switch to National League outfit Hartlepool United.
Roshaun Mathurin impresses on Hartlepool United debut
Mathurin made his Hartlepool debut over the weekend, featuring for the whole match as the side drew with Halifax.
The winger had previously been on the bench for Oliver Glasner in the Premier League games against Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth in late March and early April.
While there is plenty of promise for the Crystal Palace youngster, his first taste of senior football will give him something to build on.
Discussing his debut, Hartlepool manager Darren Sarll told the Hartlepool Mail: “He [Mathurin] had a lovely moment where he broke away – I think if he really, really believes in his physical capabilities then he leaves the one in the grass behind him and takes the other one on in a race.
“He had too many touches and he kind of slowed his progress down – those are the things we need to work on and that’s why those top clubs send these players out on loan, so they can learn in real-time when points are at stake.
“The metaphorical gun is pointed to their head – they have to perform under pressure. He made an immediate energy change to the game and that’s what I felt the game needed.
“He had some nice moments, he played a beautiful, beautifully weighted and appreciated cross in for Gary [Madine].”
The 20-year-old will be hopeful of making an impact quickly for the Pools with some goals and assists in the weeks ahead.
Roshaun Mathurin January loan decision
Mathurin’s loan spell with Hartlepool is set to end in January, which will leave Crystal Palace with some key decisions to make.
Plenty of them will be down to how the winger performs in the National League over the next few months.
However, there will be some decisions over whether Mathurin should stay at Hartlepool to see out the rest of the campaign or if a step-up is needed.
There is also a chance to return to Crystal Palace and continue learning before his path is laid out for the future.
