Maxence Lacroix has made a strong impression at Crystal Palace.

The £15.2m summer signing from VfL Wolfsburg has impressed since arriving at Selhurst Park – showing a fine turn of pace and an impressive knack of perfectly timed slide tackles.

Unfortunately, our attacking reinforcements – Ismaila Sarr, Eddie Nketiah and Daichi Kamada – have failed to shine as well, with all three of them failing to score or assist, contributing to Crystal Palace sitting 18th in the Premier League.

In fairness to Oliver Glasner – who Crystal Palace are backing rather than sacking – there was a lot of turnover last summer, and it can often take a while for so many new players to gel together.

Therefore, it is pleasing to hear that Maxence Lacroix has already struck up a close bond with four Crystal Palace teammates, who all partake in a new pre-match routine.

Speaking to the Professional Footballers’ Association, the Frenchman expressed his gratitude that so many fellow Christians were already at Crystal Palace.

Lacroix said: “I am so happy. I’m so grateful to God because he sent me to a team where we really have a lot of Christians. The first game after I came, I said, okay, let’s pray together. So, I asked Marc Guehi, Tyrick Mitchell, Eddie Nketiah and Joel (Ward). We pray together, and it was so powerful.

“The guys were like, okay, let’s do this every time now.”

With all due respect, the five of them need to pray harder to get us out of this current mess – especially ahead of some tricky fixtures in December.

All jokes aside, it is nice to hear that Lacroix, who shows great passion, was able to strike up an immediate connection with four teammates at Crystal Palace – which surely helped him settle in.

Crystal Palace must stick together

After Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against Fulham, an incredibly disappointing statement was released by the club, claiming that Kamada suffered racial abuse while leaving the pitch following his red card.

That is the last thing anybody needs right now – especially a player who himself admitted he is low on confidence – so more should take a leaf out of Lacroix’s book and follow the unity he is showing towards Guehi, Mitchell, Ward and Nketiah amid this difficult time for the club.
