Crystal Palace were refreshingly excellent in a 3-0 win over Burnley on Saturday afternoon in Oliver Glasner’s first game.
After a week of excitement in the build-up to Oliver Glasner taking charge of his first game, it all lived up to expectations.
Crystal Palace defeated Burnley 3-0 in a victory which was as comfortable as they possibly come.
Chris Richards opened the scoring, Jordan Ayew doubled the lead and the rout was completed by Jean-Philippe Mateta from the spot.
But aside from the goals there was a moment which left Glasner delighted, and it came regarding Josh Brownhill’s red card.

Speaking in his post-game interview with Optus Sport, Glasner admitted that the red card Burnley were handed wasn’t luck, but was in fact down to the impressive work of Palace.
“How we forced the red, we demanded and forced the red card was brilliant, so we attacked very high and in this situation with this kind of spirit and intensity Jefferson Lerma took the ball away so it was really nice to see.”
The Palace high press was something Burnley simply couldn’t handle as Mateta led it, panicking James Trafford into a sloppy pass which Lerma got to ahead of the Clarets captain.
This is a moment Glasner was clearly delighted by as the high press is something he will be keen to implement and the fact it’s already reaping rewards will only encourage him.
The future looks very bright for Palace under Glasner
As much as this was a very impressive display which delighted fans as it was far better than the previous six months, this is in no way the final project.
There may be small moments which resemble Palace playing in the vision of Glasner, this performance will be one Glasner will be hoping is just the first step.
The next few months for Glasner will simply be about staying in the Premier League and building a foundation for the summer and next season.
