Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has given a defiant answer to concerns over a potential sacking from the club over recent weeks.

The Eagles had gone eight games without a win in the Premier League, sitting in the bottom three before a match with Tottenham that may have been a tough one to gain confidence from.

With Glasner under increasing pressure, some of that was lifted in an impressive performance at Selhurst Park on Sunday.

Jean-Philippe Mateta’s strike, coming off an impressive flick by Eberechi Eze, helped give Crystal Palace the lead in the second half.

Spurs troubled to unlock the home side, who appeared to move that little bit closer to the winning feeling they loved last season.

Oliver Glasner discusses Crystal Palace sacking concerns

With Crystal Palace’s winless run finally ended, there was some relief in the celebrations at Selhurst Park on the pitch and in the stands.

While there is still a long way to go, and plenty of points to be earned in the weeks ahead, Glasner gave his thoughts on potential sacking concerns.

He told the press: “I always felt quite comfortable with my job. I was always very close with my sporting director and my chairman. I wasn’t really concerned about my job.”

It shows some positivity surrounding the security of the Crystal Palace coach, who can focus on helping the team perform on the pitch instead of worrying over his job security.

There are still, however, some big games in the weeks ahead that will be crucial to the Eagles kicking forward.

Key Crystal Palace fixtures for Oliver Glasner

In the Premier League, you’re often only as good as your last match and that may certainly be the case if Crystal Palace don’t kick on.

As the international break looms large, there are some big fixtures that may determine if the side sink or swim.

Wolves have equally struggled at the start and while a victory there would certainly start to bring the feel-good feeling back, a defeat may only sink the team back into the bottom three.

Fulham’s questionable form could give way to a chance for Palace to pick up some points, but they have plenty of quality.

That comes before tricky games against European hopefuls Aston Villa and Newcastle in the weeks that follow the international break.
