Oliver Glasner gives update on Chadi Riad injury after Crystal Palace 4-0 Norwich

Crystal Palace enjoyed a comfortable evening on Tuesday as Norwich were torn apart in the Carabao Cup – although an injury to Chadi Riad put a dampener on the win.

The Morocco international was forced off in the tenth minute after landing awkwardly during a goalmouth scramble for Norwich, which ended with the Canaries hitting the post at the Holmesdale Road end.

So, what did Oliver Glasner say about the injury to Chadi Riad after Crystal Palace 4-0 Norwich? Let’s take a look…

What Oliver Glasner said about Chadi Riad

The Austrian revealed that it could be knee ligament damage for the Crystal Palace No.34 when speaking after Tuesday’s 4-0 win.

As quoted by the South London Press, Glasner said: “I don’t have a diagnosis right now. It looks like something happened with the ligament in his knee. We all hope it was not too serious.

“It looks like to me he will at least miss the Chelsea game on Sunday. I will be able to tell you on Friday. He says, it doesn’t look so bad. I can hope.”

Now, the fact Riad himself feels it does not “look so bad” is a relief, although any damage to a knee ligament is always worrying.

It certainly seemed like an awkward fall for the 21-year-old, who will now almost certainly miss Sunday’s Premier League clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and depending on the severity of his injury, it could completely change the dynamic of Crystal Palace’s transfer activity this week.

Injury to Crystal Palace No.34 could see Marc Guehi stay at Selhurst Park

As Glasner says, he will be able to provide more information about Riad’s injury on Friday, which is coincidentally transfer deadline day.

At the time of writing, Newcastle are still pushing to sign Marc Guehi before the window shuts, having already seen four bids rejected by Steve Parish.

However, if Riad is sidelined for months with knee ligament damage, it feels unlikely that the England international will be allowed to join Newcastle, especially as Joachim Andersen only just sealed a £30m move to Fulham.

Should Riad be seriously injured and Guehi does still depart, it would leave Glasner with only Chris Richards and Rob Holding as natural options in central defence, while Nathaniel Clyne and Jefferson Lerma can also play there.

Hopefully, the Moroccan is not seriously injured, and can return to action as soon as possible.
