Oliver Glasner says new Crystal Palace signing has ‘good chance’ of making full debut against Sunderland

Crystal Palace have several new players in the squad for Saturday’s clash against Sunderland.

Oliver Glasner welcomed Yeremy Pino, Christantus Uche and Jaydee Canvot, who has already clicked with Jean-Philippe Mateta, to Selhurst Park in the final weeks of the transfer window, as Steve Parish splashed roughly £60m on three desperately-needed signings.

Pino has already debuted following his £21.6m move from Villarreal, impressing in his 19 minutes of action in the 3-0 win against Aston Villa, and Glasner has now hinted at a first Crystal Palace start for the Spaniard.

The Austrian has now admitted there is a “good chance” of the Spain international making his full debut against Sunderland, meaning his first start.

The official CPFC website quotes Glasner as saying: “We have 18 fit on-field players, and all the new signings will be in the squad tomorrow. There is a good chance that Yeremy makes his starting debut for Crystal Palace tomorrow.

“He just needed to rest during the international break. The first week of the international break he didn’t train. He had a small injury from his last game at Villarreal, but then he started preparing on Monday.”

Pino withdrew from international duty with Spain to focus on recovering from a minor ankle injury, which was good to see as it suggested the 22-year-old is eager to make a strong start at Crystal Palace.

Glasner also provided news on the injuries suffered by Adam Wharton and Ismaila Sarr at Villa Park, as well as an update on Eddie Nketiah.

The 51-year-old said: “The injured players are progressing very well. At the moment it looks like Wharton, Sarr and Nketiah are available at least against Liverpool, so in two weeks. That’s a great job from our medical department.

“Tomorrow none of them are available. Millwall, none of them (are) available, maybe Adam and Eddie have a chance for West Ham.”

Cheick Doucoure and Chadi Riad also remain sidelined as they continue to recover from knee injuries.

While Wharton and Sarr will undoubtedly be sorely missed against Sunderland, it is great for Glasner to finally have some depth to lean on, with Pino and Uche hopefully making an immediate impact in an attacking sense.
