Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.
Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Vicente Guaita is refusing to play for Crystal Palace as he pushes to leave Selhurst Park.
The 76-year-old informed Crystal Palace fans about the surprise development when speaking to Viaplay.
So, what did Roy Hodgson say about Vicente Guaita? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, this is very poor from the Spaniard.
Guaita was surprisingly nowhere to be seen as Hodgson took the players on tour of the United States recently, nor has the £67,000-a-week glovesman taken part in any of our more local pre-season friendlies.
Now, it has been revealed that the 36-year-old is actually refusing to play as he tries to force an exit from Selhurst Park.
Hodgson told Viaplay: “He’s (Sam Johnstone) the only one at the moment because Guaita is disenchanted with the club. He’s made it clear to the club that really he would like to move on.
“He’s been refusing to play in our games so far but the complication is that he has a year’s contract so it’s up to the club to decide really. Not him. But the current situation is that he’s made it clear to everybody that he doesn’t want to be here and compete with Sam Johnstone. So he is the No.1 and Remi Matthews is the No.2.”
That is very disappointing to hear – especially as Guaita was regarded as a fan favourite before this summer.
Crystal Palace should sell Vicente Guaita
In our view, Hodgson should not be keeping anybody who doesn’t want to be at Selhurst Park against their will.
Of course, it would be nice to have two quality goalkeepers in Johnstone and Guaita fighting for the No.1 spot, but Matthews now deserves that opportunity instead after the Spaniard’s unprofessional behaviour.
A story from Eldesmarque in Spain claims that Valencia are hoping to bring Guaita back to the Mestalla, and he is also keen on a reunion with the Spanish side.
Hopefully, Dougie Freedman can agree a deal with Valencia, as there is no way Guaita should be allowed to stay at Crystal Palace after his actions this summer.
