Daichi Kamada is yet to win over the Crystal Palace supporters after a rough start to life in SE25.

The Crystal Palace No.18 is yet to score or assist a goal in 11 Premier League appearances so far, and picked up a straight red card in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against Fulham.

As a result, Kamada will now miss the next three games – at a time where Oliver Glasner already has an injury crisis in midfield.

In recent times, our transfer policy under Dougie Freedman has primarily involved recruiting players under the age of 25, with talents such as Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and Cheick Doucoure arriving at Selhurst Park.

Therefore, the decision to sign a 28-year-old Daichi Kamada has raised eyebrows, with many suspecting our Glaswegian Director of Football did not actually want the Japan international, a feeling which has now been proven right.

The man born in Ehime had previously made 93 appearances under the Austrian at Eintracht Frankfurt – scoring 25 goals while also providing 12 assists as the pair won the UEFA Europa League in 2022.

Therefore, you can understand why Glasner was keen on a reunion with Kamada in south London, although the transfer has not worked out by any means so far.

Dougie Freedman needs to oversee a significant January transfer window

The upcoming January transfer window could now be used as a lifeline to save us from relegation, as a number of challenging fixtures in December could well have Crystal Palace sat in the relegation zone heading into 2025.

Glasner has a very small squad to work with – again, The Athletic state it was his decision to trim it down to this size – and it is now up to Freedman to work his magic in January, with reinforcements desperately needed at wing-back, central midfield and the wide attacking areas.

Millwall No.25 Romain Esse could join Crystal Palace in January to boost the latter area, with Alan Nixon claiming that the Eagles plan to make a move for the 19-year-old.

Hopefully, we can get some key men back to full fitness and avoid the need for a panicked trolley dash in January, but if it does come down to that, Freedman needs to do some of his best work, or else relegation is a real possibility.
