Michael Olise rejected Chelsea last summer, and now the real reason this happened has been revealed by a journalist.
Last summer it looked as though Crystal Palace were set to lose Michael Olise, as Chelsea triggered his release clause.
It was a shock when an announcement emerged from Selhurst Park which saw Olise signing a new contract alongside Steve Parish.
This new deal brought a much larger release clause with it, something that will have delighted the decision-makers at Copers Cope.
Now the story behind that collapsed deal has been shared, and the reason for Olise’s rejection is revealed.

Why did Michael Olise opt to remain at Crystal Palace last summer?
It was quite a surprise when Olise turned down a move to Chelsea last summer, instead signing a new deal at Selhurst Park, with a new release clause.
This has Palace well-placed to get a very healthy payday this summer with his release clause believed to be at £70m.
Now though, The Athletic have reported the true reason Olise rejected a move to Chelsea last August.
“A reluctance to commit to such a long deal (offered by Chelsea) was one of the factors that saw him (Olise) remain with Palace”.
This showcases what a brilliant personality Olise is, that he isn’t motivated by a big money contract promised to last for years, instead wants to base his decision off sporting merit.
Olise was just right to reject Chelsea and it’s paying off
Rejecting one of the Premier League’s established big six clubs isn’t something we hear about often, but for Olise it was the correct call.
Chelsea, have a habit of offering eight or nine-year contracts to their recruits which locks them down for a massive period of their career, something Olise clearly wasn’t keen on.
It would’ve been a risk given the current situation Chelsea is in, just look at Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer, both are stuck there regardless of whether the club improves.
By showing patience, if Olise does go this summer, he will get a move to either Manchester United or Manchester City, both of which are in far better situations than Chelsea.
