There is apparently hope at Crystal Palace that both Cheick Doucoure and Jefferson Lerma will be back from injury and available to face Newcastle this weekend.
That is according to The Athletic.
So what’s the latest injury update on Crystal Palace midfielders Cheick Doucoure and Jefferson Lerma? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Doucoure was surprisingly not in the matchday squad for Palace’s last game against Nottingham Forest due to a small injury. Meanwhile, Lerma has been unavailable since September due to a hamstring injury.
According to The Athletic, there is ‘optimism’ from those at Palace that both Lerma and Doucoure have recovered from their injuries and can feature against Newcastle.
It is believed that they will both be available to start the match against Newcastle at St. James Park on the weekend.
This is great news as the Eagles have been going through somewhat of an injury crisis at the moment. To have two key players back for a big game will finally bring some good injury news to the ears of manager of Roy Hodgson.

Crystal Palace stars Doucoure and Lerma available for Newcastle
Doucoure and Lerma are both key players for the Eagles in attack and also in defence. They protect the back line perfectly but can also push forward and help create attacking chances.
To have them back for such a tough away fixture is great news and it will be a massive boost ahead of the match.
The Eagles are currently without key midfielder Eberechi Eze due to injury, so Lerma or Doucoure may have to become the attacking threat from midfield.
Newcastle are on top form at the moment, especially at St. James’ Park, and Palace need to be at their best if they want to get anything from the match.

Crystal Palace are currently in the top half and they will be boosted after their away victory against Manchester United in late September.
This, combined with the fact that they have only conceded seven goals in the Premier League, will have them believing that they can keep Newcastle quiet on the weekend.
