Crystal Palace have a number of injury problems right now.

Adam Wharton, Jefferson Lerma, Chadi Riad, Eddie Nketiah, Matheus Franca and Eberechi Eze are all nursing injuries during this current international break, leaving Oliver Glasner stretched in terms of resources.

21-year-old Justin Devenny was given a Premier League debut last Saturday due to the vast amount of absentees, as we suffered a 2-0 defeat against Fulham.

Crystal Palace will hope to have as many of the aforementioned sextuplet back in time for the Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Saturday 23rd November – and there has now been a positive update on Eberechi Eze in that respect.

Crystal Palace optimistic Eberechi Eze will be fit to face Aston Villa

A story from the Daily Mail now states that Crystal Palace’s medical staff are optimistic the England international will be fit to take part at Villa Park.

Eze actually scored at that venue in our 2-1 Carabao Cup win against the Villans on Wednesday 30th October, before coming off injured after just 18 minutes.

The hamstring injury ruled the Crystal Palace No.10 out of the following 2-2 draw against Wolves and the 2-0 defeat to Fulham, but there is optimism behind the scenes that he won’t miss another game due to the problem.

Oliver Glasner must be sure before bringing Eberechi Eze back

As we saw last season when Roy Hodgson rushed Michael Olise back from injury and caused further damage to the France international – making him miss another seven games – these types of situations are delicate ones.

Of course, it would be great to have Eze back to face Aston Villa, but with several tricky fixtures on the horizon in what appears to be a gruelling December, there might be more sense in allowing the 26-year-old some extra recovery time, before unleashing a fully fit version of the attacker on opponents next month.

After all, Aston Villa are going to be a tough nut to crack with or without the £17m man, given the talent Unai Emery has at his disposal in Emiliano Martinez, Pau Torres, Amadou Onana, John McGinn, Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins.

Hopefully – if Eze does play against Aston Villa – he only does so if fully fit.
