What is an acromioclavicular sprain? Crystal Palace discover extent of Yeremy Pino injury after scans

Fortunately, Yeremy Pino has not suffered a broken collarbone, as was initially feared after the Crystal Palace No.10 went down during Spain’s 1-0 win over Uruguay.

It looked as if the former Villarreal man had picked up a serious injury – one that could have ruled him out for a minimum of two months – although after a scan, the Spain international has only suffered an acromioclavicular sprain.

It is still an issue Pino will need to overcome, but photos provide a positive for Crystal Palace as the 23-year-old cannot be seen wearing any strapping or a sling.

Yeremy Pino not expected to leave the World Cup after positive scans

It remains to be seen when the Crystal Palace No.10 can return to action for Spain, but fortunately, his shoulder injury does not need to see him leave the World Cup camp – according to El Dia.

The official NHS website states that a sprained acromioclavicular joint – which is the joint between the top of the shoulder blade (acromion) and the far end of the collar bone (clavicle) – can take between three to six weeks to heal, which is far more positive than the two months, possibly even three, needed to recover from a broken collarbone.

Pino is currently unable to train with his Spain teammates ahead of their Round of 32 clash against Austria on Thursday.

However, the results of the scan mean the Spaniard should be fit to start the 2026/27 campaign under Pierre Sage, which begins with a trip to Everton on Saturday 22nd August.

Having said that, Pino might still miss a portion of Crystal Palace’s pre-season, opening the door for Brennan Johnson to potentially impress Sage in that spot on the left of the attack.

Hopefully, Pino and every other Crystal Palace player at the World Cup can now avoid any further fitness setbacks, as the Eagles aim to record another memorable season next term after back-to-back trophy wins.
