What Paddy McCarthy did with Crystal Palace duo Marc Guehi and Dean Henderson after 5-0 England win

Crystal Palace No.6 Marc Guehi played 90 minutes as England recorded a 5-0 win over the Republic of Ireland on Sunday.

The £18m man was being watched by Crystal Palace teammate Dean Henderson – who sat on the bench, deputising for Jordan Pickford – as well as a member of Oliver Glasner’s staff in Paddy McCarthy, who was part of the Republic of Ireland backroom staff.

Despite being enemies on the night, the Irishman wasted no time in rushing over to Marc Guehi and the Crystal Palace No.1 after the 90 minutes had ended, with journalist Andrew McSteen spotting an exchange between the trio.

On the pitch at full-time, McCarthy could be seen congratulating Guehi for a fine performance, in which he kept a clean sheet and also assisted Conor Gallagher to score his first England goal.

After praising the defender, the 41-year-old could then be seen chatting to Henderson, walking off the pitch with the £20m glovesman while “deep in conversation” according to McSteen.

Despite the disappointing result for McCarthy’s Ireland, it was good to see him hurry over to Guehi and Henderson to congratulate the pair ahead of their reunion at Copers Cope later this week.

Crystal Palace face a tough run

Hopefully, Guehi can bring plenty of confidence back to Selhurst Park with him, and it rubs off on his teammates, as Crystal Palace face a tricky run of fixtures across the next month – in truth, we could well be bottom of the Premier League at Christmas if we don’t begin to improve quickly.

Aston Villa and Newcastle await in November, before December begins with a six-pointer against Ipswich, and then clashes against Manchester City, Brighton and Arsenal.

Then, we take on a much improved Bournemouth down on the south coast, before another six-pointer against Southampton to end December.

Hopefully, Glasner can get his key men – such as Adam Wharton and Eberechi Eze, who is making good progress – back to full fitness as soon as possible, or else our poor form may continue.
