Jaydee Canvot should be furious as the PFA make official announcement

Jaydee Canvot made a name for himself at Crystal Palace last season as one of the most talented young defenders in England.

The 19-year-old had to be patient following his Β£16m move from Toulouse back in August, but made a seriously impressive transition into the starting XI after Marc Guehi departed for Manchester City in January.

The France U21 international committed some mistakes early on, but made considerable progress with each passing game as he ultimately played a key role in Crystal Palace winning the UEFA Conference League.

However, Canvot has every right to be upset after the teenager was overlooked for the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Young Player of the Year award.

Jaydee Canvot deserves to be recognised for transition to English football

The PFA have now announced the final six names on the shortlist for the Young Player of the Year award – as voted for by other players – but Canvot is nowhere to be seen.

Instead, Arsenal wonderkid Max Dowman is on the list despite making only six Premier League appearances, totalling just 153 minutes of football. The 16-year-old scored one goal and provided one assist in those games.

Of course, that is undeniably impressive given his age, but the award does include the word β€œseason” in it – so we feel a nomination should go to someone who played a greater role for their side.

Canvot – who rejected Aston Villa – stepped up to replace one of the best defenders in the Premier League with hardly any experience of English football, and did so well that hardly any Crystal Palace fans even spoke about Guehi in the second half of the campaign.

The other nominees include Rayan Cherki, Nico O’Reilly, Eli Junior Kroupi, Rio Ngumoha and Kobbie Mainoo.

Where do you think we can finish in the UEFA Europa League next season after victory in Leipzig? πŸ€”

If Nottingham Forest can reach the last four while in a relegation battle, surely we can at least make the final? πŸ‘€

Hopefully, Canvot, who can also play at right-back, uses this snub as motivation to become even better for the Eagles next season, as we attempt to go as far as possible in the UEFA Europa League.
