The 2024/25 Premier League season has been far from impressive to date for Crystal Palace.

Five games into the Premier League campaign and the Eagles are struggling to get things ticking with zero wins so far.

Oliver Glasner has watched as his side have looked a shell of the in-form and free-scoring Crystal Palace side which we saw last season under the Austrian.

Goals have been a big problem, with chances being hard to come by for the Eagles.

Now, a surprise Tyrick Mitchell statistic exposes just how bad the problem is.

Tyrick Mitchell leads Crystal Palace in shock statistic

One area Crystal Palace have been struggling in is offensively, with just four goals scored this season by the Eagles to date.

This is a problem which is likely a direct influence of losing Michael Olise to Bayern Munich in the summer, with his impact in attack not being replaced.

Now, shockingly Mitchell is leading the Eagles for chances created this season – ranking highly in the league as well.

With no Olise, Crystal Palace have struggled to create regular chances, but as presented by The Other 14 on X, Mitchell is the one making things happen.

Mitchell has created nine chances this season through five games which ranks him seventh in the league among players who don’t play for teams in the big six.

He also has only two less than the top players on the list Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Gordon.

This is very impressive from a wing-back – although it is also quite damning for Dougie Freedman.

Mitchell shows Dougie Freedman he failed

For all of Freedman’s qualities in recruitment, his failure to replace Olise effectively over the summer is a rare blunder.

Freedman brought in Daichi Kamada, Eddie Nketiah and Ismaila Sarr who are all capable of featuring on the right side for Crystal Palace.

However, none of the three are stylistic replacements for the Eagles’ most important player last season.

Freedman failed to bring in a right winger who can both create and score while producing moments of magic – and he’s now paying the price for that as Crystal Palace struggles.
