Crystal Palace look set to complete the appointment of Oliver Glasner imminently, replacing Roy Hodgson at the helm.
Oliver Glasner looks nailed on to become the new manager of Crystal Palace according to various reports. The Austrian manager is said to be very keen on taking the job and replacing Roy Hodgson.
This is an impressive appointment from the Palace hierarchy and is one which bodes particularly well for the future of the club.
Glasner of course has won the Europa League and will bring a winning mentality to the club.
With the new manager arriving, some players will be in line to benefit, but there are some players who won’t be thrilled at the arrival of Glasner, here’s three names who could see their Palace careers under threat.
Will Hughes
Will Hughes is the name on this list who stands the most to lose from Glasner not fancying him as a midfield option.
Hughes is a regular under Hodgson – 19 appearances this season – but with Glasner having a preference for utilising youth players, this could be under threat.
While immediately he may be used, chances are Glasner fairly quickly decides on using a youngster instead of the 28-year-old who Palace should really be looking to improve upon.
Joel Ward
The second name that we can’t imagine being too happy of Hodgson’s departure is 34-year-old Palace captain, Joel Ward, who has 351 Palace appearances.
Ward has already seen his position reinforced through Daniel Munoz‘s arrival, with the Colombian fitting more seamlessly into how Glasner want’s his full-backs to play.
This means that Ward is unlikely toget much of a chance to impress, ahead of his contract expiring in June.
Jeffery Schlupp
The final player we’re tipping to struggle under Glasner is 31-year-old Jeffery Schlupp who is significantly out-of-favour within the fanbase.
Despite being versatile, that’s probably the best quality he has right now with some really poor performances this season.
Therefore with Glasner likely to be a fan of utilising the likes of Matheus Franca, Schlupp’s time could be over. That being said, his contract also expires this summer so it’s likely he departs soon anyway.
