Crystal Palace could face the prospect of losing their key man in defence Marc Guehi to Serie A champions Napoli, according to reports.
Marc Guehi looked defeated when he gave his post-match interview last week after the defeat against Bournemouth.
Crystal Palace are in the midst of a terrible run and that continued over the weekend as Liverpool came from behind to beat Roy Hodgson‘s side.
A run of four losses in the last five games for Palace has left Hodgson on the verge of leaving with names being circulated with the view of replacing him.
Now, it has been suggested Palace could lose more than just their manager, with Italian reports stating Guehi has been offered to Napoli.
Napoli offered the chance to sign Marc Guehi
Italian outlet Il Mattino states that Palace’s centre-half has been offered to the reigning Serie A champions.
Napoli have struggled defensively this season and that is the reason behind Guehi being specifically offered out to the Italian giants.
The Naples side have the joint worst defensive record in Serie A’s top 10 and Guehi is seen as the man to save that record.
Napoli aren’t the only team interested however as Arsenal have also been credited with interest lately.
Palace can’t lose Guehi, but if they do a replacement is needed
So if he is sold in January, then Palace need to sign a player in his place of similar quality or with the potential to reach his quality, to avoid the season further being spoiled. The ideal option perhaps is Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea.
Another option is Valencia youngster Cristhian Mosquera who’s been linked in the past few days.
Guehi and Joachim Andersen’s partnership in central defence is one of the key reasons behind Palace not already being in the relegation zone this season.
The pair are excellent but ultimately have been let down by other members of the team and the manager too.
Selling Guehi would be catastrophic for Palace given the drop-off in quality with James Tomkins and Rob Holding nowhere near Guehi’s level.
