Real Betis are now set to submit a bid to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta from Crystal Palace.

That is according to Alan Nixon.

So, what is the latest on Jean-Philippe Mateta for Crystal Palace fans to digest? Let’s take a look…

Mateta update

Well – according to Nixon – Real Betis are now willing to spend £14m to sign the Frenchman.

That would ensure Crystal Palace make a £5m profit on Mateta – who was signed in a £9m deal from Mainz 05 back in January 2022.

Xabi Alonso’s Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen are also keen to sign the Crystal Palace No.14 this month, although an exit for the striker is dependant on whether Dougie Freedman can find a replacement in time.

Mateta has been in and out of the starting XI under Roy Hodgson this season as he competes for the shirt with Odsonne Edouard, making 11 starts across all competitions while scoring five goals.

Nixon adds that Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig are also keen to sign the 26-year-old.

However, it is Real Betis who are set to make the first concrete bid.

Who Crystal Palace could sign to replace Mateta

In our view, a bid of £14m represents good value for a player who is not exactly one of the first names on the teamsheet at Selhurst Park – especially as he only cost £9m.

Therefore, we feel the offer from Real Betis should be accepted.

As aforesaid – however – a replacement is needed before any bid is approved.

One name who could replace Mateta is Borja Mayoral – according to TEAMtalk.

The Spanish striker has been on fire for Getafe so far this season, scoring 16 goals in 25 appearances.

Another forward who could replace Mateta is PSG No.44 Hugo Ekitike – Foot Mercato claimed that another swoop could be attempted this month, after talks took place during the summer.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as we could soon witness a change in the striker department at Crystal Palace.
