Oscar Mingueza is the only new signing Crystal Palace have made so far this summer, but Matt Hobbs is making moves behind the scenes.
One such move was an approach for Anan Khalaili of Union Saint-Gilloise, as confirmed by the player’s father Majdi Khalaili. Tutto Mercato Web quote Khalaili’s dad as saying: “There were numerous inquiries from various clubs. Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Ipswich – who were willing to offer €30m (£26m) – Cagliari, Atalanta, and Napoli.”
Inter Milan ended up agreeing a £26m deal to sign the Israel international, but it has now been revealed that the 21-year-old has failed a medical with the Italian giants.
Has Oliver Glasner ruined his Crystal Palace legacy by moving to Nottingham Forest? 🤔
Anan Khalaili back on the market after failing Inter Milan medical
Crystal Palace now have a second chance to sign the Union Saint-Gilloise No.25 this summer.
Some may question why we would make another move for Khalaili after he failed a medical, although Italian clubs are typically highly stringent when it comes to these assessments, as Jean-Philippe Mateta found out after failing a medical with AC Milan in February due to concerns over his knee.
The Frenchman went on to score six goals in 16 appearances for Crystal Palace after that failed medical and is now playing for France at the World Cup, so his knee issue can’t be that bad.
The main concern involving Khalaili now is whether the arrival of Oscar Mingueza has changed the situation.

Khalaili operates as a right wing-back for Union Saint-Gilloise, but Sky Sports and The Athletic claim that Crystal Palace intend to use Mingueza in that area as a rotational option with Daniel Munoz.
Therefore, it remains to be seen if Crystal Palace are actually still interested in the Israeli, who was revealed as a target for the Eagles by his father on Thursday 9th July – the same day Mingueza’s arrival was announced.

If Hobbs does still hope to sign Khalaili, however, the door is open once again after Inter Milan pulled the plug on his £26m move to the San Siro.
