Crystal Palace have just been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of treble-winning midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

An interesting opportunity to strengthen in midfield has presented itself to Crystal Palace lately. Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been touted as an option for Palace. This is a link Roy Hodgson himself has commented on, as he admitted he likes the player yesterday in his press conference.

“He’s a good player,” Hodgson admitted. He continued, “As far as I’m concerned, it’s a name that’s out there. All we know, like most other clubs, is that there is a possibility that Manchester City will either sell him or loan him.”

Hodgson also made the case for Palace being in the lead to sign him as he said that at Selhurst Park, Phillips would absolutely get regular game time.

The only problem is simply how much money he’d cost Palace for just a loan. £7m is the loan fee which has been circulated while City are expected to also insist that most if not all of his £150k-a-week wage be matched.

Although the latest update suggests financially a deal could be about to become more affordable.

Kalvin Phillips’ agent wants Manchester City to lower demands

Journalist Ed Aarons from The Guardian has provided an update on Phillips which fans will love to hear.

He wrote on X, saying that he understands that Phillips’ agents are negotiating with City over the huge loan fee they’ve slapped onto the England international.

This is because City had effectively priced the midfield gem out of a move with Palace joined by several clubs including Newcastle United and West Ham who aren’t prepared to pay City’s demands.

Phillips would raise Palace a level

Despite regularly being in the England squad, Phillips hasn’t featured all too much since he arrived at the Etihad.

He’s a high-level player however, and before his recent stagnating career at City, he was lauded as ‘superb’ by Spanish legend Xavi.

But even with limited game time he’d be an incredible signing for Palace in midfield and would mean the club replace the gaping hole left by Cheick Doucoure‘s injury – which should see him miss the rest of this season.

Phillips could potentially return to the same kind of player he was when he was at Leeds – which would only benefit him and Palace.

A true game changer in midfield for Palace and with demands possibly being lowered, Steve Parish must get this done.
