Crystal Palace’s transfer window is going very slow thus far, with little to report in the way of incomings or outgoings despite rumours.
Crystal Palace have seen the race to sign Eddie Nketiah end – with Arsenal unable to sign a replacement, despite an apparent Palace bid.
Besides Nketiah – and Ronnie Edwards – no other deal has seemed to have progressed beyond interest from the Eagles.
This has left fans assuming that once against they’ll be let down by a poor transfer window despite links giving fans reason to be hopeful.
Now, the latest blow has arrived and this is one which many already saw coming.
Kalvin Phillips won’t be joining Crystal Palace this month
According to the Northern Echo, Palace simply were outpriced in their search for a loanee in the form of Kalvin Phillips as Manchester City requested an eyewatering £7m loan fee.
This a substantial amount which wouldn’t make financial sense for Palace to undertake. Especially as this fee doesn’t take into account his massive wage which he’d request.
On Sky Sports News this morning it was reported that City would also be insisting that whichever club take Phillips pay most if not all of his £150k-a-week wage (as per Capology) which again just doesn’t make sense for Palace.
This all comes following Alan Nixon‘s revelation the other day which explained that Palace had enquired about the England international, but now the price asked ultimately will put them off.
For a player who has barely played for two years, this is a ridiculous fee which is completely unrealistic from City. With Phillips not coming in, attention must now turn to who else can help Palace in midfield – the answer could be under Hodgson’s nose.
David Ozoh deserves his opportunity
Palace should take this as a sign and instead of going out looking for an overpriced midfielder on loan give the youngster David Ozoh a chance.
Ozoh has been so impressive when given the chance for Palace in midfield this season.
He could potentially explode with some further game time and therefore, with how bad some displays have been this season, he deserves his chance as it couldn’t get much worse in all honesty.
So let’s trust in the talented youngsters we have and then the summer can see the situation revaluated.
