Crystal Palace are likely to sign a Tottenham target for free this summer as Oliver Glasner and Dougie Freedman prepare for the transfer window.

It was ExWHUEmployee who made the claim when speaking on The West Ham Way podcast.

So, which free transfer are Crystal Palace likely to pull off this summer? Let’s take a look…

Crystal Palace likely to sign Ben Johnson on free transfer

Well – according to ExWHUEmployee, one of the best sources for West Ham news – Crystal Palace are in pole position to sign Ben Johnson when his contract expires this summer.

The 24-year-old sees his current terms at the London Stadium expire in July, and there is yet to be any progress made on a renewal.

ExWHUEmployee said: “He’s been linked now with an exit and Crystal Palace are leading the way. Ledley King though, who is a relative of Johnson’s, is trying to engineer a move to Spurs.

“At this stage though it appears an agreement between the player and the south London club is at quite an advanced stage, which could sadly see Johnson head south of the river this summer, after 17 years at West Ham.”

It was Football Transfers who claimed that Tottenham want Johnson.

The West Ham No.2 has made 19 appearances across all competitions this season, but despite being able to play at right-back and left-back, he has struggled to dislodge Vladimir Coufal and Emerson Royal from either role.

Dougie Freedman made a move in January

Freedman is clearly keen to get this deal sorted quickly, as the Glaswegian made an attempt to sign Johnson in January.

A story from The Athletic claimed that Crystal Palace enquired about the 24-year-old in the winter transfer window, but West Ham turned down the approach.

It was said that West Ham were preparing an improved offer for Johnson after the man from Waltham Forest turned down two contract proposals, although we can only assume talks are still going nowhere after ExWHUEmployee’s latest update.

Having previously had little depth in the full-back department, Crystal Palace could soon boast some superb options in that area if Johnson does arrive, after the impressive Daniel Munoz signed in January.
