Crystal Palace have just made contact with West Ham over a deal for Ben Johnson – after reaching agreements to sign Daniel Munoz and Adam Wharton.

That is according to The Athletic.

So, what is the situation involving Ben Johnson and Crystal Palace? Let’s take a look…

Crystal Palace make Ben Johnson approach

Well, it has been a busy Tuesday at Selhurst Park – to say the least.

The day began with an official announcement regarding Munoz – who has now signed from Genk on a contract running until 2027.

Then, an agreement was reached with Blackburn to sign Wharton – who underwent a medical in London.

Now – according to The Athletic – an enquiry has been sent to West Ham about a deal to sign Johnson, although the east Londoners have rebuffed the approach at this stage.

It is said that Crystal Palace asked West Ham about the chances of signing the 24-year-old before Thursday’s transfer deadline, after the defender rejected two contract offers at the London Stadium.

However, the Hammers did not entertain Crystal Palace’s enquiry, and plan to make Johnson an improved contract offer across the next few weeks.

Crystal Palace could still sign Ben Johnson

If contract talks continue to prove unproductive between West Ham and Johnson, the Londoner could end up joining Crystal Palace for free this summer.

The West Ham No.2 is traditionally a right-back, although that area has now been covered by the arrival of Munoz, who will compete with Joel Ward and Nathaniel Clyne.

However, Johnson can also operate at left-back, where there is little cover for Tyrick Mitchell, while he has also played in central midfield for West Ham.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments regarding Johnson’s contract at West Ham, as any breakdown in talks could see him join Crystal Palace for free this summer.
