Crystal Palace linked with January swoop for ‘proper centre forward’ who has 88 Premier League goals

Crystal Palace are now linked with making a January move to bolster goalscoring options after a low-scoring start to the season.

The Eagles may have gotten back to winning ways over the past week, but goals have been an issue for Oliver Glasner all season.

Crystal Palace have scored just six times in the Premier League this season after nine games which is the joint lowest in the entire division.

The departure of Michael Olise has clearly had an impact on everyone in the team. Such as Jean-Philippe Mateta despite his goal against Spurs.

Eddie Nketiah is also yet to bag a goal in the league as of writing – which has now left the Eagles keen to strengthen in the No.9 position.

Crystal Palace plotting Callum Wilson swoop

Amid a concerning goal-scoring record, January presents Crystal Palace with an opportunity to strengthen enough that relegation fears become a distant memory.

Glasner will likely be looking for more attacking options, with his choices there looking thin this campaign.

So considering this, it’s little surprise to hear that Dougie Freedman is considering giving Glasner a striker with Premier League acumen like Callum Wilson.

It comes according to The Sun, which reports that Wilson is now the subject of interest from four Premier League rivals with Newcastle looking to cash in after his injury struggles this season.

Fulham, Brentford and Southampton are also keen on the England international who is open-minded about a move considering his standing in the Newcastle side.

Eagles should have serious concerns about signing Wilson

Wilson is an excellent striker – scoring 88 Premier League goals in his career so far which is no mean feat.

However, concern around Wilson arises from his fitness – which should be even more concerning by the week with the 32-year-old yet to feature this season for Newcastle.

A back injury is not something to be taken lightly and if it keeps him out of action until January then surely no club would take the chance, considering the wages he’d be demanding.

That being said, if he is fit there are few in the league as inevitable as Wilson – being labelled as a ‘proper centre forward’ by Alan Shearer.

Wilson on a short-term deal could be a masterstroke – but it is a deal that Freedman and Co. would need to do their due diligence on.
