Crystal Palace have been linked with on-loan Juventus winger Matias Soule in recent days, and a deal could be possible in the January transfer window.
Conflicting reports are emerging that whilst Palace are interested in the 20-year-old, his loan club Frosinone want to keep him beyond the winter window.
However, Juventus are struggling financially, and want a cash injection to allow them to spend in the winter window. This means that selling an asset who is not currently in their squad would be a desirable bit of business, and Palace have been named as a possible destination.
Juventus want to sell Matias Soule to Crystal Palace
Journalist Fabio Santini told Italian channel TV Play that Juventus are keen on signing midfielder Teun Koopmeiners from Atalanta, and are aiming to fund this deal by selling several young assets in the January window.
“Juventus are working hard on two important midfield profiles. They had already come very close to Koopmeiners in June with a €40m offer and in January it could go up to €45m with the sales of Iling Jr and Yildiz,” he stated.
“They have never let go of the track leading to Berardi and would like to sell Soulé for €20-25m to Crystal Palace or Tottenham.”
It seems that €20m (£17m) would be the starting price for Soule, who has scored six and assisted once in 14 games for Frosinone this season.
Is there any point in Crystal Palace signing Matias Soule?
Matias Soule is a gifted young talent currently thriving in Serie A. Given his strong form right now, he has little benefit to be gained by moving to Selhurst Park in the winter window.
Whilst Roy Hodgson is in charge, young players will struggle for opportunities, and Soule would likely join summer signing Matheus Franca on the bench, who is struggling to even make substitute appearances.
Soule appears to be a Dougie Freedman find, as he looks to build for the future, rather than someone that Hodgson believes can slot into the side immediately.
Soule typically operates on the right wing, where Michael Olise usually plays, and a left-winger may be more of a priority.
If Palace even spend any money this summer, they will likely prioritise a left-back and a defensive midfielder following injuries to Tyrick Mitchell and Cheick Doucoure, and Soule would certainly not be a signing who can make any sort of impact under Hodgson to lift Palace’s form.
